Halal-nesss...

This story happen to my chinese coursemates..."real story".

There was this certain mamak (Indian Muslims) restaurant that my Chinese coursemates ocassionally go for lunch. Not going to disclose any names or locations as I don't really intend to bring bad publicity to the restauranteurs, not really their fault. Let's just say, it's somewhere in Butterworth.

On the day, the boss came to them and begged asked them not to eat there anymore. They were shocked! WHAT THE HELL?! But after hearing his explanation, my friends kind of got it. He told them that they are causing him to lose customers.

Why???

You see, the place is a Malay majority area. And there's alot of Malays eating out at this particular restaurant. Problem is (which my friends didn't realized earlier), this steady flow of customers have been reducing since they set foot in his restaurant. There have been complaints to him about Chinese eating out in the restaurant and using the spoon & fork which the Malays also have to use.

According to this Muslims, the spoons became un-halal because Chinese who eat pork have used them. To avoid being un-halal themselves, they decided to go to another place to have lunch. My friend really don't know , seriously, is this really something to do with halal-ness or just the Malays feeling plainly disgusted at the sight of other races being around? My friend know about Muslims are not allowed to eat pork because it is deemed to be unclean. But to the extent of not being allowed to share spoons? I think....need some enlightening on this *^#&/">matter....@*^#&/!@

A food label is stamped halal if the contents of the food conform with Muslim dietary laws. A halal certification is analogous to a kosher certification, in that it is provided by a certified third party agency, but kosher food is not necessarily halal, and halal food is not always kosher. For Muslims who are concerned about obeying the Sharia, or Islamic law, a halal label acts as an assurance that the contents of the food are not haram, or forbidden.

Apakah Gelatin Halal?

What is the word "halal" means...

'Halal' is a label given to foods which are ceremonially slaughtered according to Muslim traditions, as stated in the Qu'ran. 'Halal' is the Arabic word for 'allowed' or 'permissible', and is used as a generic term used to describe anything which is lawful or allowed in Islam.
Muslims are only allowed to eat meat from animals or birds which have been slaughtered in a particular fashion. The animal must be cut with a sharp knife across the neck in such a fashion that its blood is drained. During the slaughtering, Allah's name is also mentioned as a way of showing gratitude.

What is not permissible in Islam?

Animals which have died naturally of illness or disease are not 'halal' and may not be eaten.
Carnivorous animals such as tigers, lions, and any other animals which feed on flesh may not be eaten. Land scavengers such as pigs, or anything originating from them, is specifically mentioned in the Qur'an as not allowed to be eaten. Food sacrificed in the name of other deities is also not permissible.
